'Axe the Tax' campaign moves to Elmfield Way

The Liberal Democrat 'Axe the Tax' campaign is being taken to the streets of South Croydon.

The 'Axe the Tax' campaign calls for the scrapping of the Council Tax and its replacement with a Local Income Tax.

Members of the local 'Axe the Tax' campaign group will be collecting signatures on their petition in Elmfield Way, South Croydon on Saturday 7th February from 10am.

This is the first of several petition signing sessions planned for streets across Croydon.

The Liberal Democrats have proposed that a new Local Income Tax, set at an average of 3.75p would be levied to replace Council Tax. Based on people's real ability to pay, the move would mean tax cuts for millions of pensioners and ordinary families.

"Pensioners and families on fixed incomes suffer hugely with the Council Tax. A Local Income Tax would mean that 70% of households would be better off or unaffected," said Steven Gauge, Liberal Democrat London Assembly Spokesman for Croydon & Sutton.
