Save Our Post Offices, say Lib Dems6.59.00am UTC (GMT +0000) Tue 27th Apr 2004 Local Liberal Democrat campaigner Steven Gauge has condemned the proposed closure of 14 Post Office branches across Croydon Borough. Every part of the borough is affected from Old Coulsdon and Kenley in the south to Thornton Heath in the north (see below for a full list). Liberal Democrat London Assembly Spokesman for Croydon & Sutton Steven Gauge said - "The Post Office is a cornerstone of these communities. These closures will hit local people hard, particular those who are unable to travel outside of their local areas." "The Liberal Democrats, locally and nationally, have been campaigning about the planned closure of a third of the post office network since 2002. Sadly our predictions are now coming true in Croydon." Steven Gauge urged all those who were concerned about the closures to sign the petition to save them at www.croydonlibdems.org.uk Coulsdon East Liberal Democrat councillor Ian Atkins, whose ward include the Lacey Green Post Office, said - "The closure of Lacey Green Post Office is a massive to the residents of Old Coulsdon and the Tollers Estate in particular." The proposed list of closures is: 17 Brigstock Road, Thornton Heath 1023, London Road, Thornton Heath 285 South Norwood Hill, Thornton Heath 334 Whitehorse Road, Thornton Heath 143 Windmill Road, West Croydon Addiscombe Post Office, 1123 Lower Addiscombe Road 99 Calley Down Crescent, New Addington 163 Shirley Road, Croydon (oppostite Trinity School) 20 Woodmere Avenue, Shirley Kenley Post Office, 84 Godstone Road, Kenley Lacey Green Post Office, 221 Coulsdon Road, Old Coulsdon 4 Station Parade, Sanderstead Waddon Post Office, 337 Purley Way, Waddon Red Deer Parade, Brighton Road, South Croydon
