Despite attempts by Croydon Tories to silence them, the Croydon Liberal Democrats succeeded in speaking out against the Council Tax at the latest meeting of Croydon Council.

In a UDM (Urgent Day Motion), Councillor Ian Atkins proposed that Croydon council should lobby John Prescott's office to replace the unfair Tax with a a fairer system, based on people's ability to pay.

The majority Labour group voted against the motion, whilst the Tory group actually tried to block the motion being debated at all.

Ian said, "This shows that both Tories and Labour have no alternative to this unfair tax and more and more people - particularly pensioners - face more hardship in finding money to pay this tax."

Ian has been backing this up with a petition calling on the government to scrap the tax, which has generated a significant response.
