Council Tax: the Lib Dems' real alternative

The Lib Dems are the only major party with a costed, coherent alternative to the unfair Council Tax. The Tories simply want to tinker with it whiet Labour having failed even to revalue properties in England, let alone reform it. And no wonder: in Wales, revaluation resulted in a disproportionate number of properties being moved into higher council tax bands.

The Lib Dems have consistently opposed the government's mad-cap scheme to force every British citizen to carry an ID card. This scheme is already way over budget and even its supporters admit it would not combat terrorism. Carrying a card is no substitute for effective policing and intelligence.
