Transport

The council has shown little concern about local transport. The Lib Dems support a greater mix of transport provision, giving people more options and making greener alternatives to the car more feasible.

• We will work with other councils to press trains companies to incorporate rail travel into the pre-pay Oystercard system.

• We will press for the Gatwick Express to stop at East Croydon, thence for more frequent trains to serve stations along the South Central network.

• We support the extension of Tramlink into areas where the existing transport infrastructure is poor.

• We will support residents where the need for a new or expanded bus route is identified.

• We will investigate the possibility of providing park-and-ride sites for car drivers and cyclists, and the introduction of selective short-term free parking for shoppers.

• We will expand the number of cycle paths, both to encourage cyclists and protect pedestrians.

• We will introduce alternative traffic calming methods and support the introduction of reduced speed limits on certain roads.
